IT Financial Management desired
In the course of digitalization, IT is providing more and more services faster and faster. This is also changing the requirements for internal service provision. Innovative companies such as the healthcare group Gesundheit Nordhessen Holding AG (GNH AG) are asking themselves a key question: How much IT will the company provide itself in the future? GNH AG was therefore looking for a solution that could carry out value analyses for initial investments, monitor ongoing costs and increase IT productivity. GNH AG opted for the IT Financial Management (ITFM) solution COCKPIT.
Innovative health management
Gesundheit Nordhessen Holding AG is a regional healthcare group that offers a wide range of medical services in northern Hesse, from primary care to cutting-edge medicine. At the heart of GNH is the Kassel Clinic as a maximum care provider and the largest municipal hospital in Hesse; in the surrounding area, the Bad Arolsen Hospital provides care close to home. The GNH hospitals treat around 57,000 inpatients every year. With over 4,500 employees and more than 440 training places, GNH is one of the largest employers and training companies in the region.
Every euro of the IT budget should prove its worth
The management of GNH AG recognized early on that the relationship between performance and value must be reprioritized in modern IT management. For GNH AG, IT budgets should no longer be costs per se, but primarily resources to achieve goals. Every euro of budget used in North Hesse should prove itself in future and compete with each other. GNH AG initially used classic Excel sheets to achieve this goal. Achieving cost transparency with these “on-board tools” required a great deal of manual administrative effort, which also had to involve too many departments in the process. A solution was sought that could map the IT cost structure, planning and optimization to the highest possible degree of automation.
COCKPIT as an IT financial management tool
Since then, GNH AG has been using the IT financial management solution COCKPIT from DextraData to solve this challenge. At the time of its initial deployment, DextraData was a pioneer in the field of IT Financial Management with COCKPIT – just as GNH AG was one of the first German companies to recognize the benefits of ITFM. In order to achieve the greatest possible self-sufficiency, GNH AG opted for an on-prem installation of COCKPIT.
Constant added value for product and clients
GNH AG uses COCKPIT as an IT financial management tool and combines it with classic controlling. This enables the company to view the entire IT organization and IT services from a financial perspective, providing it with an important basis for decision-making. As GNH AG was an early client of DextraData for the COCKPIT, the North Hessian healthcare group has been very progressively involved in the further development of the COCKPIT from day one. Many valuable impulses in the evolution of the ITFM software came and still come from the regular dialogs between GNH AG and the Essen-based software manufacturer. This constantly creates added value for the product and clients.
IT Financial Management as a customized solution
By using COCKPIT, GNH AG is able to develop a real IT strategy. The transparency not only creates planning capability, but also gives the healthcare group the opportunity to simulate the effects of changes in the service structure. This means that Gesundheit Nordhessen Holding AG’s IT is no longer a pure cost factor, but a KPI-controlled high-level management system that provides a basis for decision-making on investments and strategic planning, enables asset management and allows costs and performance to be optimized through benchmarking. Despite the on-prem installation, the regular exchange with the DextraData DevOps team ensures that COCKPIT is not an off-the-shelf product, but a customized solution for GNH AG.
